These constitutional documents are referring to every student union member and every HUJI staff member at the Faculty of Agriculture who wish to have a garden plot in the student union’s organic garden.
The lottery will be held on 28.12.23.
Whoever’s name which will not come up during the lottery will have to clear his/her existing garden plot.
the right to keep an existing garden plot will be saved for whoever’s name which will come up during the lottery.
the formal opening for the organic garden shall take place near the begining of the year. whoever will choose to come and help maintaining the garden during the event will double his/her chances to win a garden plot during the lottery.
every person who wishes to have a garden plot must pay 50 ILS fee to the student union (nonrefundable) per year. This money will be used later for maintenance and so on for the garden. The fee must be paid no later than one week recieving a notification of the winning.
In addition, there are another 50 ILS deposit fee (refundable) to be paid. This deposit will be refunded only if the garden plot will be properly taken care of when given back to the project’s managerby the end of the grower’s membership in the organic garden project. If plot is being given back in a bad shape and not taken care of- the deposit will not be refunded.
every student union’smember and/or every Faculty staff member is allowed to grow in his/her own plot ONLY.
. it is not allowed to have the plot’s plants growing/ invading beyond the plot’s borders.
the perimeter between the plots, the “passage”, is under the responsibility of the growers themselves and shall be taken care of by them as if it was their own plot. The perimeter surrounding grower’s plot is under his/her direct responsibility. It must be clean of bad weed and so on.
picking/ harvesting will be made from the grower’s private plot only, unless allowed to pick from a different plot by the permissions of the other plot’s owner.
the grower is allowed to take care of his/her garden’s plot is he/she wish to, but it is not allowed, by any means, to neglect the plot. The organic garden represents the faculty, the student union, the dean’s office and the rest of the growers! It is recommended to visit the plot at least once a week and to take care of it (pulling bad weeds in and around the plot etc.).
it is extremely forbidden to apply any substances such as pesticides, herbicides etc. in the garden. Violating this rule will cause immediate dismissal of the grower from the garden. For any doubts when applying anything- you may contact the project manager.
every grower has 2 alerts/ advance notices regarding his/her garden plot’s maintenance and/or his/her activity in the garden. If after 2 alerts (in sequence, with 1 week space between them) the grower will not show signs of caring for the garden (in action)- his/her membership in the garden will be revoked. If there is a problem to reach the garden between the 2 alerts- the grower must inform the project manager before receiving the second alert. One week after receiving the second alert- the grower must clear his plot and give it back properly clean (in order to receive the 50 ILS deposit) or to take care of it within the same week and inform the project manager about doing so. By doing that, the grower will be allowed to keep the plot, according to the constitutional documents provided here. If the plot is lost- it will be given to the next person in the organic garden lottery list.
it is not allowed to grow trees in the garden, only vegetables, flowers and spices are allowed.
the waste shall be disposed in its rightful place only- the big white garbage bags which are to be found in the garden itself. The waste shall be cut to a proper size in order to fit in the bag. Improper disposal of waste will cause a warning or membership loss.
for every change in the ownership of the plot- the grower must inform the project manager.
every person who wishes to grow in the garden must provide valid (and active) e-mail address to the project manager.
the garden’s equipment is for the garden’s maintenance only. Is extremely forbidden to take it outside the garden’s perimeter with no explicit written approval from the project manager.
planting aggressive plants demands guidance and approval from the project manager [e.g. rosemary, lavender, mint, peas, green beans, any type of gourds (e.g. pumpkin, cucumber, squash, melon, watermelon) and/or any plant which raises any doubts). In such case the grower should refer to the project manager for guidance. Usually the given recommendation is to plant the aggressive plants in the general garden’s outskirts instead of within the plots. If the project manager is allowing the planting inside the plot- invasion of the aggressive plant from the border of the plot is forbidden.
lack of cooperation with the project manager and/or lack of following the rules will end up in dismissal of the grower from the garden immediately with no “2 warnings” process (which is mentioned in section 11). Dismissal of the grower for any of the above-mentioned reasons is under the sole decision od the project manager.
in the middle of June (end of 2nd semester)- a message will be sent regarding the grower’s interest to keep his/her plot during the exams (which is a hard time to maintain the garden).
**whoever chooses to clear his/her plot should do so while keeping the constitutional document’s rules or else he/she will not receive his/her 50 ILS deposit.
A student who does not want to continue growing in his plot is requested to vacate it by 01.09.23 and inform the garden coordinator in order to receive the deposit. The deposit fees will be returned until 20.09.2023 and only after the garden coordinator's approval of the garden's evacuation.
